Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ITEMS ARE ACCEPTED?

The Donor Closet currently accepts gently used medical and mobility equipment that is in working condition and has no rust, tears and has not been setting in an outdoor environment. We take shower chairs and transfer benches, commodes and other bathroom safety equipment. Wheelchairs, transport chairs, rollators and walkers are accepted, as well as crutches, canes and other mobility equipment. Newer, working power chairs are accepted but must be in working condition and must include the charger.

Other equipment accepted is working hospital beds and accessories (trapezes, bed rails, assist rails) and plastic/vinyl covered mattresses, lift power chairs, hospital bed tables, incontinence items and other miscellaneous medical supply items. It is always a good idea to call in advance if any questions about what is accepted.

WHAT ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTED?

The Donor Closet does not accept cPaps, tubing of any kind (ostomy, tracheal, etc.), any electronic equipment that must be calibrated specifically to a patient or equipment that requires a prescription, medications, syringes, insulin, etc. Again, please call if you have questions on any items you wish to donate.

WILL YOU ACCEPT MY INSURANCE?

The Donor Closet does not accept nor process insurance. We are volunteer staffed and not trained in the processes and policies of insurance.

CAN YOU ADVISE ME ON WHAT MEDICAL EQUIPMENT I NEED?

Again, we are volunteer staffed and not trained in the field of medicine nor medical equipment. It is best if you have spoken to your physician, physical therapist or occupational therapist and come into the store with instructions from your trained, medical staff. It is not unusual for a therapist to have called in advance to see if we have equipment that fits your needs.

DO YOU BUY OR TRADE EQUIPMENT?

The Donor Closet does not purchase or trade used equipment. We rely on the generous donations of used equipment to maintain our
inventory.

DOES THE DONOR CLOSET REPAIR EQUIPMENT?

Our shop is not prepared or staffed to repair outside equipment. The dedicated volunteers at the Donor Closet are kept busy making
adjustments and repairs to donated equipment to ensure all equipment being put on our showroom floor for a “suggested donation price” are in good working order and in a safe condition.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS) TO DONATE OR PURCHASE FROM THE DONOR CLOSET?

No, you do not need to have MS to donate or purchase equipment through the Donor Closet. Our store is open to the public, to anyone with or without MS. Financial Aid through the MSHH Donor Closet is open to persons with MS in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. This process is handled through the home office in Edmonds, Washington at 425-712-1807.

IS PICKUP OR DELIVERY SERVICE AVAILABLE?

We have temporarily suspended pickup and delivery of items due to lack of volunteers. Donations can be dropped off any time during business hours. Please do not leave unattended donations.

DO YOU RENT EQUIPMENT?

The Donor Closet does not rent equipment. We do, however, rent knee scooters/walkers at a very reasonable rate. Please call the office on rental fees and availability.
